Hi friends!

Today I would like to introduce a very special person to you.

This person has been my web developer and adviser for all things computer and internet related for quite some time.

I have recently asked him if he could share some of his knowledge and valuable ideas with you, my dear readers. And I am beyond happy and excited that he said yes to being a special contributor on this site.

This friend’s name is Peter and today he would like to share with us How to Attract Traffic to a WordPress Blog by Making it Mobile Friendly…

Traffic is the blogger’s lifeblood. Not only does traffic bring in ad revenue, it also creates a community around the blog.

Many bloggers started out a few years ago when smartphones and tablets were rare. But in today’s world, these devices are present everywhere and are used intensively. So it is very important to enable easy access to your blog for these mobile users.

Since WordPress is the best and most used blogging platform, I will show you how to make your WordPress blog responsive. Responsiveness is that quality of a website which automatically changes its layout, so it is optimized for various devices. In other words, a responsive site is easily readable on a cell phone, a tablet, a laptop, and a desktop computer.

The following tutorial is intended for self-hosted WordPress blogs (wordpress.org) like the one that Petra uses.

The whole process consists of only six easy steps. And here they are…

STEP ONE

Go to your WordPress dashboard. Click Plugins, click Add New.

STEP TWO

Search for a plugin called Jetpack by WordPress.com authored by Automattic. Install the plugin.

wordpress dashboard install plugins jetpack

STEP THREE

Activate the plugin.

wordpress dashboard activate plugin jetpack

STEP FOUR

Click Connect to WordPress.com in order to enable all the nice features of this plugin.

STEP FIVE

If you already have an account with wordpress.com, just enter your username and password, then click Authorize Jetpack.

wordpress authorize jetpack

If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one by clicking Need an Account?. After signing up by entering your email address and selecting a username and a password, WordPress will swiftly send you an email with an activation link. By clicking on that link in the email, a new browser window will open, where you will be able to click Authorize Jetpack.

STEP SIX

Activate the Mobile Theme feature in WordPress Dashboard > Jetpack.

wordpress dashboard jetpack plugin activate mobile theme

At this moment, you may check out how your blog looks like on mobile devices. If you are not completely satisfied, choose one of Jetpack’s four available mobile themes that best suits your blog. You can find Jetpack’s themes in WordPress Dashboard > Appearance > Themes.

Easy and beautiful, isn’t it? 🙂

Please, let me know in your comments whether your blog is already responsive or if you found this tutorial useful to make your blog responsive.

Happy blogging!
Peter

(Note: Mobile support is also available for wordpress.com users. It can be easily set up via the wordpress.com Dashboard in Appearance > Mobile.)

New Kitchen

As some of you might have noticed, mostly because I was talking about it on-and-on-and-on, we have moved in a new flat.

Of course, I have a few pictures of the new place to share with you. From now on you’ll be perfectly able to imagine where me and my camera spend most of our days.

I like the kitchen quite a lot. It offers just as much space as I need with plenty of work surfaces and storage. And yes, there’s a washing machine in there too. That kitchen has suspiciously many functions. When I find another surprising one, I will definitely let you know.

What I like about the kitchen the most is this lady. Me and her, we are going to have a hot and steamy relationship.

Late Late Night Projects… And Michael, Again

ego lights

This is what my late nights look like these days.

Just recently I bought these daylight imitating lights to allow me to take pictures later than the real daylight allows. So I am happily using them to take pictures for my pdf patterns. Just like right now when I am preparing a pattern for my mini teddy bears.

Let me tell you, I really love these lights. Mainly because I have all the time I need to concentrate on my projects – no haste, no hurrying, no light chasing. And secondly, I love them because my ‘night owl’ self can finally come to life again. Yes, I so am a night owl. I have always been and I love it.

So yeah, this is what I am doing at this very moment. To make the picture even more clear for you, let me add that the dawn is breaking outside my window, I feel so fine, and I am listening to this:

I wonder how he’s doing – Michael. I really hope he is fine. Maybe he’s jamming with Kurt. Maybe he’s met Amy already. And I hope Paula is good to him.

Sweet Michael.

I wish you a wonderful morning, dear friends.

Love,
Petra

One Year

It was exactly one year ago when I published my first post on this site.

With that post I hopped on a flying train having no idea where I was heading. I still don’t have much of a clue, but what I know for sure is that this is one crazy, wonderful and ecstatic ride.

It’s been more interesting, satisfying and fun than I’d ever imagined it to be.

Blogging has brought new love into my life – the love of photography. I am so thankful and happy for that. Now I can’t even imagine my existence without a camera and that colorful and addictive world it brings.

Blogging has made me travel and find new interesting places to show you.

Blogging has also allowed me to share my crazy cooking and crafting creations which makes the whole process of creating them even more fun.

Blogging makes me want to learn new things. And tell you about them as soon as I learn them.

Blogging provides for a space to share my scatter-brain thoughts. That helps – big time.

And most of all, blogging has brought new friends into my life – my precious, darling readers. You are the best readers there have ever been.

Thank you for being there and for being so nice!

I love you all!

Petra
