Detox Smoothie

detox smoothie recipe with step by step picture tutorial

Yep, that’s a healthy green smoothie?

I realize things like these are rather scarce over here, at this little place of mine.

But before you start wondering whether I’ve overcome a head injury recently, let me explain what’s going on…

I made this smoothie yesterday. That allowed me to tick off my first New Year’s resolution – to bring a little more health into my life.

Then I did three (3) sit-ups.

I was feeling amazing.

A new person was born.

Today I made a batch of cookies and had two glasses of wine.

So everything is back to normal.

The new person has grown up rather quickly, it seems.

Still I wonder what made me feel better, the alkalizing smoothie or the lovely wine.

Need to think it all through.

ha… you are such fun! But, please tell me. Does the smoothie taste good? Does the lemon and pineapple juice help it go down easily? I’d be willing to give it a try if it is good 🙂

SO nice visiting with you! Happy weekend!

…yes, it tastes good. If you tolerate the taste of fresh ginger, it does. And exactly as you’ve said, the lemon and pineapple are the main flavors, so it’s nice. If you find it too sweet, you may want to add some water. Enjoy your detox and have a wonderful weekend too! 🙂 Petra

I’ve seen quite a few recipes that call for spinach in smoothies and while I’ve never tried it, it mustn’t taste too bad if it’s so common. I must gather the courage and try this sometime!

I HATE spinach, but I eat it every day! I put fresh baby spinach (like 2 handfuls!), a few large scoops of peach yogurt, a full pear, and a banana and blend it up. It gives you a serving or 2 of dairy, fruit, and veggies plus it tastes sooooo good! Add a little flax and it’s incredible! Don’t be afraid of the spinach, it won’t bite 😉

      drina says:

It’s not bad at all. I make a smoothie with a cup of non fat greek yogurt, 1 cup of blueberries (or raspberries, blackberries, strawberries), about 1/2 cup of orange juice and a big handful of baby spinach. It blends right in and you don’t even know it’s there! Soooooo good and good for you!

I Loved the smoothie. I relish all dishes and drinks with spinach. I am surely going to try this…

So random – I went to the grocery store tonight and bought fresh spinach because I heard it is a great addition in smoothies. I wasn’t really sure how it would taste, or if it would even work… Then I logged onto Tastespotting and saw your picture. It was like fate. Now I know how to make a great spinach smoothie 🙂

I just made this for my boyfriend and I, and although we both loved it, I felt it was missing something. So, before I finished my smoothie, I added a capful of white Caribbean rum. It stopped seeming like it was missing something and became even more awesome!

My boyfriend still feels it was AMAZING and is “reaping the health benefits”.

But I feel good, good for the vitamins and good for the rum.

Clearly I have an issue with alcohol free drinks….

That looks beautiful – I can’t wait to try it! And to calm anyone’s worries about spinach in smoothies: A while ago I had bought a ton of broccoli rabe and was trying to get rid of it before it went bad. One of the strategies was blending it into smoothies. As long as I used lots of flavorful stuff in it (bananas and frozen mangoes are awesome!) you couldn’t really taste it at all, and believe me, spinach is a lot more bland than broccoli rabe. 🙂 Good luck!

Just discovered your site via Pinterest … love it! Your crochet, recipes & wit are wonderful! I look forward to trying this smoothie! It reminds me of the apple/pear/kale/lemon juice I made recently … my first time juicing with greens & we loved it. Amazing how the sweet tang of certain fruits dominates greens just right. I even added a teaspoon for healthy flaxseed oil & we couldn’t taste it (thank God). Cannot wait to enjoy your smoothie … I know it will be a hit as well! 😉

  39. 39
    KarenDF says:

… oops! I meant to type “of healthy flaxseed oil”. Sigh … I just remembered the fresh pineapple in my fridge that I cut up over a week ago … ugh … hate it when that happens! But, you also reminded me of the bottle of red wine in the fridge … glass for tonight & the rest for cooking lamb for dinner tomorrow. 😉 Thank you (notice I ignored your reminder to do sit-ups … LOL!).

    Amy C says:

Made this this morning according to the recipe, but also added some frozen pineapple chunks just to try and thicken it up a little bit. I actually liked that this was a thinner smoothie….almost a frothy juice. I get tired of really thick, heavy smoothies that I can only drink about 1/3 of. This was SO YUMMY!! It tasted of pineapple and lemon with just a hint of ginger “zing” (and I usually hate fresh ginger!). Really delicious!

Dayton, Lemon does alkalize the body, it may sound backward but its true, google it. I don’t understand why you have to be so rude, there is no reason to call someone ignorant. Especially since you don’t have the facts straight.

This is called a detox smoothie. Does it cleanse your colon?

    • 56.1
      Paulette Ward says:

Yeah, detox – somewhat… Cleanses nothing really, but it’s better than what a lot of people shove in their stomach for breakfast. Just google a cleansing detox smoothie! You’ll get lots of ideas, & you can always tweak it as you please. Just remember what your trying to do… cleanse – detox or smoothie…. just sayin’ not a lot of people can do a real cleanse, cause it’s 3 per day for a couple of days, w/ only water, tea – plain – no sugar or milk, & a chicken broth. Now that’s a cleanse.

  57. 57

This is an alkaline drink, and does help alkaline the body. Used together with other alkaline foods, it will improve your health because it does reduce the acid in your system.

What kind of pineapple juice? Just the regular bottled stuff you can buy in the grocery store?

  65. 65
    huckle says:

Sure, these foods effect the pH in your STOMACH, but you can’t possibly believe that it does much else. And just like having too low of a pH in your stomach is bad, having too high (or alkaline) has possibly worse effects. Your stomach acid is there to kill a lot of the bacteria that you ingest, because there is a lot of it. That acid filters out and kills most of that stuff, so as you raise the pH you also let more stuff in. There’s always a chance you could get some nasty illness that you could’ve prevented otherwise. Just eat a good variety of foods and you’re golden.
