Easy Crochet Infinity Scarf – Free Pattern

infinity scarf free tutorial

Infinity scarves are just amazing!

They are one of the greatest human inventions, I believe :).

Not only do they look great, but because they are actually just circles with no end or beginning, they are in fact extremely comfortable to wear. You simply place them over your neck, twist and loop … and you’re good to go.

If you are tempted to make a crocheted version of an infinity scarf, then you can easily do so by following the instructions below…

To make the scarf you will need: yarn (I used worsted weight – Read Heart Lisa and Red Heart Bella; scrap yarn is really great for this project), a crochet hook (I used H – 5 mm), scissors, a yarn needle and a safety pin.

Abbreviations (US terminology): ch – chain stitch, Sl st – slip stitch, dc – double crochet stitch.

ROUND 1

/with color A/ 230 chain stitches (leave about 12-inch/30 cm long tail in the beginning),

Note: By making 230 chain stitches you create a base for a rather long scarf that can be looped around the neck twice. If you would like to make a shorter scarf, you will need to start with a smaller number of chain stitches (I recommend 200 or less).

join with Sl st in first stitch

Note: Make sure the chain does not get twisted when making the slip stitch mentioned above.

/continue with color A/ ch 3 (mark third chain),

1 dc in 229 following stitches,
join with Sl st in back loop of the marked stitch
[stitch count: 230]

Note: You can ‘crochet in’ any tail ends as you go (that will save you a lot of weaving in in the end). To ‘crochet in’ a tail end, simply yarn over, insert the hook in the following stitch, then place the tail end on top of your crochet hook and finish the double crochet stitch as usual. Continue until at least 6-inch/15 cm part of the tail end gets ‘crocheted in’. Of course, you can simply skip this part and weave all the tail ends in the end.

cut the working yarn (leaving about 12-inch/30 cm long tail),

using your hook, bring the tail to the wrong side of your work

ROUND 2

/with color B/
attach new yarn to random stitch of Round 1 (leaving about 12-inch/30 cm long tail),

Note: To attach the yarn, make a slip knot using the new yarn (leaving about 12-inch/30 cm long tail in the beginning). Set the slip knot aside. Insert the hook in random stitch of Round 1, …

… then insert the hook in the slip knot.

Draw the slip knot through the stitch.

Yarn over.

Note: Again, you can either ‘crochet in’ the tail ends as you go (shown in the picture above), or you can weave in all the tail ends in the end.

Thank you for the step by step guide along with the picture. Infinity scarves are unique and stylish, especially if it is made by crochet pattern.

Is there a way to only use one color? How many skeins of yarn does this pattern use?

    Hi
Are you showing 2 different scarves? One looks like you are skipping every other stitch. Also, does this wrap 3 times?

This pattern is great to follow, nice and easy for someone that’s new to following patterns. I have one problem though. I chose to make one with one colour and I’ve found the my crochet is curling. Any advice on how I can fix this up. I’m at row 13 and certainly don’t want to undo it now.

If I just would like to use one color how would I work it?

      Hi Rachel!

      Thanks for the message.

Making this scarf with one color only is very easy – when you finish a round with a slip stitch into the first stitch, just slip stitch into a following stitch, make chain 3 and continue crocheting in each following stitch. Then again, finish the round with a slip stitch in first stitch (which is the ch 3 post), make 1 slip stitch in following stitch, ch 3 and continue working the round.

I hope this makes sense. It really should be very easy.

Happy crocheting to you and have fun.

      Petra 🙂
