Because one of the best things I’ve found in this world is giving presents to the people I love I’ve prepared a cute little something for you.
You definitely deserve it!
It is a Chess Set …but this one is played in a rather funky way – on a glass board with cute shot glasses filled with your drink of choice.
I see so many advantages of this kind of set over the usual one – first, it definitely lets you have a lot of fun. If you go ‘soft drink’, it keeps you hydrated. If you’re an adventure seeker, just fill the glasses with alcohol and set out the rules so that the player who takes most pieces drinks most grog. I think even a pro playing against a beginner can have a pretty enjoyable match – any kind of ability gap will be swiftly bridged. Think red wine versus white wine, for example. Or silver tequila against gold tequila… gee, I got carried away.
So yes, one of you can win this game.

And now I’d like to show you a little magic trick.
Café Frappé – it’s truly magical.
Why?
I’ll show you…
Café Frappé is a beloved drink of the Greeks.
All you need to prepare it is some instant coffee, sugar, water, milk and a few ice cubes.
It’s as simple as can be.
You also need to steal a frappé shaker from your Mom. If your Mom dares not to own a frappé shaker or if you are a decent person and don’t steal, then just use a glass with a lid.
Easy!
1. In the shaker/container/glass mix 2 teaspoons of instant coffee…
2. …with 2 teaspoons of sugar.
3. Add 4 tablespoons of water…
4. …close it and…
SHAKE IT… SHAKE, SHAKE IT… SHAKE IT LIKE A POLAROID PICTURE!
Shake it just until you get from this…
… to this frothy heaven.
Did you know that your instant coffee has this kind of ability?
It can transform into this thick and foamy wonder in no time.
I just love it!
5. Then fill a glass half way with ice cubes.
If you are a maniac like me, you can try to make these flavored ice cubes sometimes.
6. Pour the foam into the glass.
7. And add as much milk as you like.
Yum!
I’ve learned that the Greeks like to drink this foam-covered iced coffee with a straw.
Also, they like to stir the coffee and enjoy the relaxing sound of the ice cubes hitting with each other and with the glass.
Wonderful!
Just give it a try – it’s simple and delicious!
Oh, and don’t forget about the giveaway…
Love,
Petra

Oooh…I think the bf and I would have to play with alcohol. Maybe slightly toned down alcohol (that’s a lot of chess pieces!) – but alcohol, nonetheless 🙂 the red wine, white wine deal sounds like a good idea!
this looks like fun 😀 i would fill it with water, my bf can do water or tea.
songyueyu at gmail
Tea if it’s daytime- some type of alcohol if its night. What a fun looking game!
I think I would want to use a sweet drink like strawberry daiquiri or hard lemonade.

Wow that coffee looks insanely good! I’m super jealous.
I stumbled upon a picture of that chessboard a while back and since have been trying to figure out where to buy one!
I would play it with my boyfriend drinking 90% Absinthe (yes, really.) and me with Vodka (26000 brand, preferably. goes down smooth without too much of the vodka shudder).
It would definitely be an interesting time…
I’d definitely use shots of espresso. so much caffeine…
Definitely alcohol…day or night! 🙂 I’m thinking Guiness. 🙂
I saw one of these sets a while ago on the internet and sent it to all of my friends immediately. The shot I had in mind when I first looked at it was one I learned in England: fill half the shot glass with butterscotch schnapps and then layer Bailey’s Irish Cream on top. This shot goes by many different, equally, delightfully vulgar names, but it tastes just like a Werther’s Original candy. So maybe my half of the board would be these versus an equally delicious shot of the opposing player’s choice, perhaps Candy Apples or Stoplights.
What a fun idea for a chess game!
Guess it would be cheating to play it with water for me and alcohol for my opponent, hmmm? 😛
Good thing too, since I much rather have an excuse to drink a bit of alcohol again 😉 I’d probably fill it with Malibu or Pina Colada, ’cause that would be such an awesome picture: Late night in the garden, with the day’s warmth still in the air, drinking summer cocktails.
Love the red wine/white wine idea! But if were were playing with liquor, margarita shots could be fun. 🙂
I would play with jello shots!! Very college, it’s true, but it would look so pretty and be so much fun 🙂
I am thinking about “Souma” (typical greek alcohol) but I have a felling that Checkmate will not be so easy as the souma will take away our concertation! 😀
Of course shots of Ópal (Icelandic liquid licorice!!). Only Proud vikings can appreciate them! 🙂
Have you ever tried Metaxa (Greek: Μεταξά). It is a blend of brandy and wine and I really like to have a small glass after a great meal.
I would give this to my best friend and I know her and her buddies would drink vodka and other weird shots in this game!
jacksoncrisman@yahoo.com
water for both or for me creaming soda soft drink or diet lemonade.
I’d fill those little glasses with mojitos. Refreshing!
Jagerbombs all the way. And I’d probably play checkers instead, because it’s less effort on the brainz.
Also, how cool is that frappe shaker? I’ll have to try this sometime.
oooo VODKA!! and i suck at chess hmmm… 😉
I would have to fill it with shots according to the point value of the chess pieces; pawns would get beer, knights and bishops with wine, rooks with schnapps, the queen with vodka, and the king with 151!
dkoucky@gmail.com
I would put some Southern Comfort in there
Following on twitter as that_1chick
I would use a mixture of rum and coke.
twoofakind12@yahoo.com
I would put the cheapest whiskey in the pawns and upgrade the booze to the worth of the pieces. Rooks would be next followed by knights and bishops, with the queen and then the king with the most expensive brands.
Let’s play with absinthe, just to go against the grain…
I would fill these with X Rated vodka because it is good but still kind of strong. I can’t to hard shots. 🙂
I follow you on twitter @Aerated. Thank you!

Bourbon chess!!!
If I was using alcohol, half of the pieces would be green! There is a cocktail I love called fat frog, its made of equal parts orange bacardi breezer, smirnoff ice and blue wkd. I’d make up a jug and use it for half. The other half would be some other colour, hell I might even just stick some food colouring in the fat frog and make it crazy coloured fat frog!
I would play this chess game with Captain Morgans Rum. Thank you for the lovely giveaway.

soda
I am a facebook fan too! Under my email address (that hopefully you can see!)
I have played this game before and its fun with alcohol or alcohol free drinks 🙂 but i like it with margarita.
I think I would have to use blended buttery nipples on one side and blended tequila sunrise on the other!
web would play with beer
Blue motorcycle shots all the way! I don’t drink often, but when I do, I make it count!
We would have to say Miller Beer!
If we played on a weekend when my children were at Grandmas then we would be playing with Tequila.

This would be fun with something like hard lemonade or maybe even sangria! Yummy fun!!!
This looks like a fun drinking game. I would make my pieces pink with x bombs and my husband could have black pieces from jager bombs!
I would put rum in my glasses and honey loves a good coffee brandy.
Beer in the pawns and stronger spirits corresponding to piece value/strength for the rest. Oh, and a nice finishing touch would be to add a timer for the matches! 🙂
I would use margaritas for this game. Thanks for the giveaway!
I like you on facebook (Ordell Knot)!

Considering I’m a terrible lightweight with alcohol and my boyfriend can drink til the cows come home (and we don’t have any cows) I’d probably play with something light, I really love his grenadine cherry coke with a bit of rum. He could probably play with pure rum. Luckily, I usually have him beat, it’d be a fun way to get him a bit tipsy!
I’m sure the endgame using alcohol would be hilarious once you’re both too tipsy for much strategy. Sounds like an awesome way to play and a good way to entice the boyfriend to keep at it!
My email is keribug(at)live(dot)com and I’d love to win this!
I followed you on twitter (my handle is keribugg) and I retweeted it just for bonuses!
Oh and I forgot to say, the coffee looks delicious too! I make a sort of variation where I brew up really strong coffee and mix it with more sugar (think frappucino-levels of sugar) and then top off the glass with milk and ice. Absolutely delicious! I’ll have to get a shaker and try your variation with the froth, too, sounds much fancier than mine!
Mike’s Hard Lemonade.
OO what a fun game! I would play with Grey Goose Vodka or Yager bombs. Fun stuff!
Yummy!!!!
Have to play with some type of Schnapps. Something with flavor enough to enjoy but enough bite to put the loser on the floor. Take that Bobby Fischer!
Peach Brandy Would be My alcohol of choice
Cherry Coke Zero & Cherry Vodka! Yesssssssssss!!!!!!!!
I would play this game with vanilla and orange vodka, what a cute set!

I’d use Michelob Ultra Beer!

Vodka and Sprite, thanks!
“What kind of beverage would you choose to play this game with?â€
I think the Irish Coffee would be an excellent beverage to use for this …. And since there is a difference in the colors if playing with the kids, they could have koolaide in theirs while Mommy had relax time …..
What a cute idea
beer
Long island ice tea..little shots of it yummy

I’d play with water. That could get to being a lot of shots!
I’d play against my husband, beer for him and coca cola for him. Or maybe something stronger for him and I’d actually have a chance of winning!!! Looks like a fun game!!!
Following you on Twitter (moreorlesley)
Cheap screw. My husband and I came up with this cheap version of a screwdriver. It’s bargain brand diet orange soda (instead of orange juice) with vodka.
I’d fill them with Natty Ice
i would fill it up with sparks 9% alcohol =]
I would play it with tequila.
I would use a brandy…either apricot or blackberry. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I would use Mikes Hard Lemonade.
Raspberry Vodka shots.
Thanks for the chance.

Mike’s Hard lemonade with the adults. Hawaiian Punch with the kids.

original greek frappe coffee is filled with cold water (essential) when done shaking it, milk and sugar is added as extra only!
some alterations include adding ice-cream (but no ice cubes) or even the addition of a measure of baileys liquer!
some recent balcan alterations (serbia etc) use only milk to fill the glass and no water and almost always ice-cream..
the past few years most people use electric shakers so that the foam is even thicker..
Ahoj Petra, je tu strasne vela prispevkov a priznavam, ze som leniva citat vsetky. Chcem sa ta spytat, ci nic nepokazim ak miesto mlieka pouzijem sladku smotanu. Ja a mlieko sa moc nelubime 🙂
Ahoj Michaelka. To by malo byt uplne v poriadku. Pravdepodobne este omnoho chutnejsie! Skus experimentovat, podla mna je to velmi dobry napad! Ako prvy pokus by som ale skusila mensie mnozstvo tej smotany, potom trebars doplnit vodou, ze co to spravi. 🙂 Petra
Tak idem natriasat pohar 🙂 Dam vediet ako to dopadlo.
🙂
Mozem o tvojej stranke napisat par slov na moj blog? A dat tam link?
Bude mi velkym potesenim! 🙂
Bolo mnamky!!!!
Super, som rada! 🙂
Ahoj Petro!
Ahoj Mirku!
Dakujem, ze si sa zastavil na mojom blogu.
Ten shaker je uplne obycajny, raz sa to v tychto koncinach predavalo spolu s kavou a maminka to kupila. No a ja som jej to dodatocne slohla. Je to obycajny shaker, ale ako nahrada zan sa da pouzit akykolvek pohar s vieckom. Zavaraninovy, napriklad.
Rovnako prajem prenadherne Vianoce a Novy rok (a aj ten cely novy). 🙂
Petra
This post is genuinely a nice one it assists new net viewers, who are wishing in favor of blogging.
This turned out great! I didn’t have a glass with a lid, so I shook it in a water bottle and poured out the foam instead. I tried it with soy milk, and it tasted delicious as well. You could also add liquid creamer with flavors such as vanilla or hazelnut. Refreshing version of coffee!
heh, im greek and Im so glad about frape hehehe. I read all of your crafts and feel so inspired! I did crochet slippers and were so easy, thank you so much!
keep going, love your crafts.
love, maria from salonica (thessaloniki, greece)
I totally forgot about this! I’ve spent lots of time with my friends back in Europe drinking this in the summer. I need to make one soon 🙂
